Small businesses embracing tablet POS as critical tool

When it comes to the use of tablet point of sale solutions, many people think the benefit is nothing more than the ability to process transactions from anywhere in the store. While that is one of the major drawing points of the solution, there are a number of additional features that are making mobile POS terminals the next step in retail.

A recent article from Technology Guide covers the ways that businesses are taking advantage of the latest innovation to the POS terminal.

"The adoption of tablets by small-business merchants has grown dramatically in recent years, especially as the software surrounding organizations moves to a mobile environment," the article reads. "From food trucks to restaurants and coffee shops to craft stores, tablets are becoming one-stop shops for small businesses by opening up new avenues for point-of-sale systems, back-office solutions, and so much more."

Kimberly Eddleston, Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Northeastern University, told the news source that businesses are using this new technology for everything from running a transaction to quickly looking up products in the inventory to handling administrative tasks. She mentioned seeing some businesses, like interior designers, using tablets to alter images in real time to show potential customers.

She added that the functionality of mobile devices that are partnered with the right applications allow small businesses to perform a number of different tasks on a single device. Choosing these apps can be a challenge, as there are a number of different options on the market. Working with a mobile payment solutions consultant can help individuals find the system that works for them.
